Key points
- The simplest way to improve the performance of the AC program is to replace or clean the air filter.
- Cleans the alternating filter increases cooling, improves air quality and extends the service life of the unit.
- Vacuum and washing permanent mesh filters or fully replace the filters for disposable paper.
If you want cool, crunchy air from your AC when it’s hot outside. So, if your AC does not smoke cold air, you can first look at more complex solutions, like adding multiple coolant. Although this often solves the problem, there is often easier solution: cleaning the air filter.
Michael Brief, which has over thirty years of experience in HVAC with Friedrich air conditioning, explains why air filter cleaning is the most effective way to achieve a colder air from your AC.

Why clean filter provides you with a colder air
The primary purpose of the HVAC filter is to prevent dust and other contaminants from entering the airflow, according to short. This creates a healthier living environment and improves air quality.
“If the filter is not cleared correctly, householders can face increasing exposure to infectious particles in the air such as allergens and other pollutants,” says brief.
The clean airplane filter allows the air to pass freely, while the dirty filter restricts air flow.
“And this ultimately can affect the performance of your unit cooling,” says Brief.

How often the air filter cleaning
Your alternate unit will also have a permanent meal filter that can be followed or disposable filter.
“Most air conditioning rooms come with najlon meshes network that can last a unit life,” says short. “The nylon mesh filters should be cleaned monthly.”
One-time fabric, carbon and MERV 13 paper filters also require a monthly replacement when the unit is in great use, adds brief.
If the unit changes are not used, clean or changes the filter for about once every three months. If used daily or if your house has dirty air, clean or change at least once a month or more often as needed.
How to clean the filter
Before changing or cleaning the air filter, turn off the unit on the thermostat or switch the switch on the electric service panel.
Find the filter for an additional alternating unit behind the front face. For Split AC units, find the filter behind the front panel. Central alternating filters are usually found in the return channel or behind the return of air.
Cleaning the washing filter
- Remove the filter: Slide or unplug the filter to remove it.
- Vacuum filter: Use a vacuum with brush fastening to gently remove dust from the filter. Be tender, such as mesh nylon filters brittle.
- Wash the filter: If the filter is still dirty, sprinkle with a bicardal soda, then rinse slightly with a hose (no high pressure).
- Dry and install the filter: Allow the filter to dry completely before installation. Return it, secure any clips and close the access plate.
Disposable filter or change or change
- Cancel latches: Injury buckles holding the air filtering tray in place. This is tight with air so that the latches can be firm.
- Remove the filter: Remove the old filter and discard it. Do not wash and use disposable filter.
- Insert a new filter: Insert a new filter in the filter tray. The arrow on the side of the filter should be pointed out in the direction of air flow.
- Safe drawer: Re-Layer.
What type of air filter uses
Is it better to use a permanent disposable washer filter?
“And one-off disposable filters serve the same purpose in protecting your system and the life environment from harmful air particles,” says Brief.
So, it is mostly a matter of personal preference. While the washing filter is better for the environment, it is still a disadvantage if you do not operate regularly. In that case, it would be best to use disposable paper.
The brief recommends a disposable filter of MERV 13, as it is effective in a recording between 50 and 90 percent of air particles.
Other cooler air tips and more efficient ac
Increase your AC efficiency with these tips:
- Close all blinds and curtains, especially those who face the sun.
- Limit activities that produce thermal production, such as the use of oven, stove or dryer.
- Change the direction of the ceiling fan in the counterclockwise direction.
- Paste gaps and cracks in windows and wing walls.
- Open all open openings for air channels, even in unused rooms.
