One of the best ways to prevent a terrible smell of storage is washing and drying clothes before you store them.

“Check whether they are completely dried before storage, and if possible, avoid storage in the shorter like a damp basement,” says Ceconi.

If wet places are inevitable, try compression or vacuum bags and a plastic bucket with a lid.

“If the clothes are dry, and the storage is impermeable, you won’t get the smell of drift,” he says.

The storage containers you choose also make a difference. Consider replacing plastic bags and bins for fabric boxes, which provide a breathable home for unused clothing. If the plastic must (especially in areas prone moisture), vinegar, baking soda and detergent soda enzymes should receive all unpleasant odors.
